In October 2017 representatives from theNational Collective of Independent Womens Refuges (NCIWR) and Te KupengaWhakaoti Mahi Patunga/National Network of Stopping Violence Services (TKWMP/NNSVS) met to determine the viability of creating a new nationalcoalition which has, as its primary focus, the elimination of domestic violencethroughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
As a result of those meeting, the two bodies agreed in December 2018 to create the National Coalition of Domestic Violence Specialist Service Providers.
The vision of the Coalition is to advance system-level change in addressing family violence by:
- Exploring and participating in opportunities for collaboration between members of NCIWR and TKWMP/NNSVS as specialists in family violence specialist service providers.
- Advocating for and implementing evidenced-based best practices in relation to family violence prevention and intervention
- Providing unified specialist national leadership in relation to advancing system-level change in addressing domestic violence.
